The Tests We gave the Stopper to Leeds Polytechnic to test on various surfaces and at various angles. These included wet and dry floors, even painted concrete sprinkled with fine sand, using a ladder with wheels attached to the upper end to minimise the friction. After exhaustive tests, Leeds Polytechnic felt able to give the following conclusion. The Conclusions How and why does it work? The ladder is kept in place by friction at it's point of contact, if this friction is overcome by the load on the ladder then it slips with hardly any warning - then it's too late (see above). In normal use of a ladder two very small areas come into contact with the ground and all the weight of the ladder and it's user is concentrated on these two points. This is why the rubber feet of a ladder wear away very quickly. With the Stopper, the weight of the ladder and it's user is spread over a larger area.
